Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the management of the sales function in the Arizona market. Key accountabilities of the position include assisting in the development and execution of a strategic marketing plan, contribute to the development of pricing strategy for the market area and oversee customer sales, budgets, forecast and to produce regular reports of progress. The position requires continuous contact with operations as to material availability and product needs and to manage major accounts/contracts and seek out, negotiate, and bring to completion contractual relationships.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the General Manager, the Sales Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of sales plans that align with the market goals
  • Effectively lead, manage and develop sales and support staff
  • Communicate and implement Martin Marietta’s vision, mission and overall sales direction
  • Provide technical training and skill set development (communication, negotiation skills, etc.)
  • Provide frequent personal contact with key customer base to maintain maximum market penetration and profitability for Martin Marietta and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Increase annual sales and significant growth in profits by developing new business, expanding markets and developing strategic opportunities for long-term growth and efficient flow of inventory
  • Analyze market trends and activity to create strategic solutions to market shifts
  • Prepares timely and accurate reports as requested
  • Develop annual sales plan based on market intelligence acquired through customer interaction, Department of Transportation spending, and other market tools
  • Deliver key goals/objectives for success by consistently meeting targeted yards, revenues, and selling prices to ensure maximum profitability
  • Closely manage the entire sales function to ensure that MMM becomes the supplier of choice
  • Work closely with customer service, quality control, operations and safety
  • Work closely with district credit personnel regarding new accounts and accounts receivable
  • Communicate with District personnel so that they remain informed and on-board with daily sales decisions
  • Strong emphasis placed on developing strong functional relationships between production and sales
  • Support company’s community relations activities in the local community

  • Financial – create and execute strategic and tactical sales plan to achieve objectives/key performance indicators (DSO, profit, ASP, yards, repeat business, new customers, etc.)
  • Customer Service – exceptional customer management skills and developing customer loyalty
  • Safety – compliance with the Company’s Safe Driver Policy; adhere to safety regulations (state, federal, company) while on site and attend and speak at plant safety meetings; work with customers and/or trucking companies to ensure drivers are compliant with these regulations at all times while on MMM property

Education/Experience/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Sales/Marketing, Communications or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years sales management experience in the ready-mix industry or related field (i.e. construction, etc.)
  • Proven sales, negotiation and customer service skills; demonstrated capacity to develop rational pricing strategies and sales forecasting
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and proficient in MS Word, Excel and Power Point. Proficient in CRM systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team to achieve district, division and company objectives
  • Sound working knowledge of ready-mix concrete, including basic knowledge of customer uses of our products. Knowledge production, delivery and quality control of ready-mix concrete
  • Ability to travel, including overnight as needed
